Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Hereinafter
called IMR, CAS) is one of the first key institutes authorized to
confer doctoral and master’s degree in China. It is engaged mainly
in research and development of high performance metallic materials,
new types of inorganic nonmetallic materials and advanced composite
materials, covering their structures, properties, performances,
corrosion and protection as well as relationship with each other.
It pays equal attention to materials engineering such as synthesis,
fabrication and application. It's goal is to play a key roll in
some of pioneer research fields of material science, especially
in the fields of nano-materials, metallic functioning materials
etc. in the world today.
IMR is a high-level institute and well equipped with
advanced scientific research facilities, excellent working environment
and enough research funds. In addition, It has a strong tutoring
team for Ph.D. and MS students supported by as large as 70 members
of tutors, including 7 Academician both of CAS and Chinese Academy
of Engineering(CAE). It has made wide variety of academic exchanges
with universities, institutions, companies and entrepreneurs etc.
from more than 30 countries and regions. It has also done and is
doing world-wide joint research programs and co-operations in some
pioneer fields under the bilateral agreement with universities and
research institutes from the United Kingdom, the United States of
America, Germany, Japan, Italy etc.. It is worth mentioning that
there are 13 research scientists holding different kinds of posts
in international academic organizations and associations. It is
more attractive that overseas graduate students have chance to apply
for scholarships offered by IMR or other related scholarship offered
by CAS.
As for studying and working environment, there is a beautiful
and quiet campus full of trees and trimmed grassland in IMR. It
is a pleasant place for students to study and to do research. In
addition, the living conditions and working facilities are very
supportive too. Ph.D. enrollment test takes place twice a year and
MS’ once a year in IMR. As for the registration and test schedule
is set up by CAS.
IMR is located in Shenyang city which is the center of politics,
economics, business, culture and communications in the Northeast
China. It was also the capital city of Qing Dynasty where the first
emperors Nuhachi and his son Huang Taichi were in power. The Shenyang
Palace Museum (Forbidden City) second to Beijing one is still in
good shape. Finally they buried themselves in the two tombs (called
North Tomb and East Tomb) in a quiet place with pine trees around
in the north and east suburb of Shenyang. Both Palace Museum and
tombs as precious historical relics are attractive to tourists from
both at home and abroad.
The weather is pretty nice in clear four seasons all year.
It is not too hot summer(around 30 degrees centigrade for two weeks
in July, 20 degrees for rest of summer) and not too cold in winter(minus
20 degrees centigrade for two or three weeks in Jan, minus 10 degrees
for rest of winter).
